Having recently moved to a new home and looking for furnishing options, I found myself assembling IKEA furniture. Was really fun to put couple of Bookshelfs, Sofa, couple Bedframes and few more furnitures. Spend about 14 hours in total setting up the new home. This experience made me realize how IKEA’s flat pack modular design is remarkably similar to low-code development.

In today’s fast-paced world, efficiency and simplicity are key. This is evident in both the furniture industry and the tech world. IKEA’s flat pack products and Microsoft’s Power Platform’s low-code drag-and-drop features both aim to make complex tasks more accessible and manageable for the average person. Let’s explore how these two seemingly different concepts share common principles and benefits.

DIY Delights

Theme IKEA Flat Pack Products Power Platform
Ease of Assembly/Development: IKEA’s flat pack furniture is designed for easy assembly by the consumer. The products come with clear instructions and all necessary components, allowing users to put together furniture without professional help The Power Platform provides a user-friendly interface with drag-and-drop features, enabling users to build apps and automate processes without needing extensive coding knowledge. This democratizes app development, making it accessible to a broader audience. The best part is the community driven approach which enables quick resolution for any technical queries / problems
Efficiency The flat pack design also minimizes waste and maximizes efficiency. Allows businesses to deploy solutions faster and at a lower cost. But if engineered cleverly can drive lot of efficiency

Continous Innovation IKEA continuously innovates its product range, introducing new designs and improving assembly methods. The introduction of tools-free assembly with wedge dowels is an example of such innovation. Amazing cadence of product feature release by microsoft Power Platform Engineering team. The incorporation of AI and natural language processing in app development is a testament to ongoing innovation.
